  • CIC and ASTM Develop New Standards For Green Meetings
    The Convention Industry Council’s Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) and ASTM International have partnered in the important endeavor of defining what is “green” in the meetings and events industry. The immediate goal of the co-sponsors is to organize stakeholders, NGO’s and other interested groups to actively develop standards specifying environmental best prac­tices associated with meetings, conferences and trade shows.

  • Renaissance Schaumburg Converts Chlorine Pool to Mineral Pool
    Becoming the first Illinois hotel to convert a chlorine pool to a mineral pool, the Renaissance Schaumburg strives to reduce waterborne irritants, eliminate the offensive chlorine odor and itchy skin, and reduce eye irritation. Since its inception, the hotel has sought to coexist with its surrounding environment, working with the building's architect to ensure wetland preservation, in addition to creating other eco-friendly programs.
  • First LEED Hotel Raises the Bar
    Marriott Inn & Conference Center, UMUC, the first LEED-certified hotel and conference center in the U.S., continues to demonstrate its commitment to the environment by re-launching its recycling program. The Inn, hoping to be the forefront in the green movement, will display innovative signage and new receptacles, and it will place more attention on back-of-house recycling. Additionally, the hotel will begin a new composting initiative.
  • 40-story green hotel planned in Syracuse to be part of the Carousel Center mall, using a model that communities throughout the nation can use to redevelop polluted lands. The hotel is to be built and operated without the use of fossil fuels.
  • Disney hotels to join in Florida's Green Lodging Program using energy-saving appliances, such as water-conserving toilets, faucets and showers, charcoal air filters, and an extensive recycling program.
  • Hilton New York has completed the rigging of a PureCellTM Model 200 Commercial fuel cell power system, one of the cleanest power generating technologies available today, which is nearly three times more energy efficient than the electric grid when used in combined heat and power applications.
  • The Hilton Vancouver Washington, one of the country's first green, environmentally sustainable hotels, has been certified by LEED, making it the first LEED-certified Hilton hotel in the world.
  • Loews Coronado Bay Resort & Spa in San Diego will now use sustainable agriculture from local farming communities, embracing all that the Mediterranean climate has to offer, including a plethora of fresh greens, organic resources, and fresh seafood.
  • Hilton and Doubletree hotels in Southern California have launched Eat Naturally, an innovative new catering program focused exclusively on delivering menu items that are fresh, local, organic and sustainable to its catering clientele.
