Slash your energy and natural gas consumption and get rewarded for your efforts.  Here’s how it works:

1. Register for the AH&LA Energy Slasher Challenge.  There’s no cost to enter, just create a user ID and password.  This will give you access to AH&LA’s tracking tool and savings calculator.
   
2. Take a look at your most recent energy and natural gas bills, where you’ll find your totals for the past 12 months.  Enter the monthly usage from April 1, 2009 – April 1, 2010.  This will serve as your benchmark for comparing your savings over the next 12 months.
   
3. Use any of these free tools to help you track and manage your consumption:
   
   

   	GreenQuest
   	EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager
   	Your brand or corporate's benchmarking program

   
   
4. Visit www.ahla.com/slasher on a regular basis to update your monthly totals until April 1, 2011.  A leader board will be updated on a quarterly basis, highlighting the top Slashers.
   
5. The winners will be the small, medium, and large property with the greatest overall savings April 1, 2010 – April 1, 2011 compared to the previous year.  Each winner will receive a full day with the AH&LA Green Guru for a personal eco-strategy session, as well as other prizes courtesy of HD Supply. (Must be an AH&LA member to win.)

Don’t forget to use the AH&LA Green Resource Center for tips and strategies on reducing consumption – and costs.  AH&LA members also receive advice from the Green Guru on a monthly basis and can email specific questions at any time.
