AH&LA Statement on Immigration Reform

Immigration reform is an urgent issue for the U.S. lodging industry. Thousands of positions in hotels across America go unfilled each year because there simply are not enough Americans applying for the jobs. The problem is particularly acute at properties that rely on seasonal workers. The lodging industry must have a stable labor pool to fill these critical service positions and to continue providing the high-quality service our guests demand.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and its members favor comprehensive reform to meet the increasing need for employees and to ensure that all workers are protected by federal labor laws. Any workable solution must secure our borders and protect our economic security. Comprehensive legislation must include a guest worker program that identifies those immigrants already in the country, provides a method for a status adjustment after they are screened and fined, and allows those who qualify to work in jobs for which Americans cannot be found. A rational, long-term solution is the only way to solve this complex but critical issue.
