Safety & Security

KEY MESSAGES

  • As a business that is centered on serving the public, one of our top priorities is the safety and security of our guests and employees.
  • Hotels have safety and security procedures in place that are regularly reviewed and updated as are their emergency response procedures.
  • As we continue to learn the facts about the incident that occurred in Las Vegas, we will continue to work with law enforcement to evaluate safety and security measures.
  • Policies currently exist for hotel staff that if they “see something, say something.” We urge all hotels to discuss with their staff the importance of this practice on an everyday basis and especially prior to and during major city-wide events.
  • Many hotels also follow Do Not Disturb (DND) policies for guest rooms during major city-wide events and other situations in which large crowds may be gathered.
    • Currently, most hotels allow guests to request that their rooms not be entered for cleaning during their stay. However, hotel brands generally require that guest rooms subject to a DND request should still be entered for routine cleaning after three days.
    • Hotels should consider how best to address DND policies during major city-wide events in which there will be large crowd.
  • Hotels are not governed by Federal law which prevents firearms on their premises though some hotels have specific prohibitions of firearms, including notices of “no-gun” postings either in their hotels or in certain areas of the hotel.
