Advocacy

Spearheading the hotel industry’s national advocacy agenda.

America’s hotels have a long legacy of making dreams come true—not just for our guests, but also for millions of people whose jobs our industry supports.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) is honored to lead the hotel industry’s national advocacy agenda and share stories of opportunity, innovation, and service.

From the Administration and Congress to state capitols and city halls, we are committed to engaging policymakers and community leaders on important issues, including economic recovery and relief, addressing our workforce needs, bringing back travel, and protecting our guests and neighborhoods.

Key Issues

AHLA is the singular voice representing every segment of the hotel industry including major chains, independent hotels, management companies, REIT’s, bed and breakfasts, industry partners and more.

Making a Difference for Hotels

We focus on five key pillars, as outlined in our 2022–26 Strategic Plan:

  1. Protecting hotels from onerous workplace rules
This means defending against government policies designed to discriminate against and cause economic harm to the hotel industry.

  2. Highlighting hoteliers’ community engagement and impact
This means educating elected officials and showcasing the hotel industry’s positive impact through job creation, economic impact, and community service.

  3. Recruiting a larger workforce and promoting career opportunities
This means attracting new talent, highlighting unique career pathways, and boosting leadership diversity across our industry.

  4. Fighting for a level playing field
This means ensuring alternative accommodations adhere to the same taxation and regulations as hotels.

  5. Leading on sustainability, diversity, and safety
This means growing our industry into a recognized national leader on human trafficking prevention, workforce diversity, and sustainability.
