What is a Committee?

AHLA Committees are content-focused groups that consist of representatives across all of AHLA's membership.

AHLA committees help shape the future of the lodging industry and provide opportunities to build professional relationships. To help tackle specific challenges and opportunities, AHLA committees provide continuity of thinking for the larger organization and build upon a cross-section of knowledge and experience.

Mission & Objective

The AHLA Resort Committee serves as the voice of the resort segment, information AHLA’s advocacy regarding legislation and regulation affecting the resort community; and providing educational resources, support, and networking opportunities, particularly to independent properties. A resort is a property that appeals to travelers, is typically located in resort markets, and is considered a destination in and of itself with extensive amenity offerings.


 The Resort Committees principal objectives are:

  • To harness the thought leadership and resources of the members to support key AHLA-led industry
    initiatives, including education, advocacy, and engagement.
  • To provide insight on behalf of the resort industry on pending legislation.
  • To study economic and marketing trends and their potential impact on the resort industry.
  • To encourage the highest ethical, environmental, and management standards in the resort industry.
  • To promote a favorable image of resorts to the public at large, the tourism industry, and public officials
    making decisions that affect the resort industry.
  • To encourage this committee’s members to participate in other AHLA committees, programs, and
    initiatives.
  • To recommend representatives of the resort segment to serve on the AHLA Board of Directors.

How do I join the Resort Committee?

In order to join the committee, you must:

  • Be in the highest-level position at your property.
  • Have been in your role for at least 1 year.
  • Have two letters of recommendation (corporate and property) from Committee members, confirming the nominee satisfies the eligibility criteria and attesting to the quality of the services and facilities of the nominee’s resort.
  • A signed acknowledgement that the nominee has reviewed the policies and procedures.
  • A resume or C.V.
  • Information supporting the nominee satisfies the eligibility criteria.
