HOTEL INDUSTRY TO FIGHT DISCRIMINATORY MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE IN L.A.

Washington, D.C. (October 1, 2014) - After the Los Angeles City Council approved a precedent-setting, discriminatory measure that increases the minimum wage to $15.37 only for hotels, the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) today unveiled steps to fight the proposed ordinance. The hotel industry made the announcement in conjunction with the City Council's final vote today to approve the measure.

HARRY JAVER DONATES $5,000 TO AH&LA'S ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN

Harry Javer, president, The Conference Bureau and co-founder, The Lodging Conference, and his wife Elizabeth Wolff contributed $5,000 to the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation's (AH&LEF) 2014 Annual Giving Campaign. The Annual Giving Campaign is the Foundation's yearly fundraiser that supports its core missions, including providing scholarships to hospitality management students, funding important research in areas such as room tax and ADA requirements, as well as workforce development initiatives and promoting hospitality as a career of choice.

HOTEL INDUSTRY EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION UNVEILS NEW LOGO

(September 25, 2014) - The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) has adopted a new logo and graphic look reflecting its dynamic mission and focus and incorporated a new tagline: Invest Educate Empower, to capture the core focus of the non-profit. Earlier this year, new logos were unveiled by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI). 

REP. PETERS TOUTS JOB CREATION ON TOUR WITH HOTEL STAFF AT HYATT REGENCY LA JOLLA

U.S. Representative Scott Peters (CA-52) today toured the Hyatt Regency La Jolla in San Diego, California as a Heart of House hotel tour, citing the impact the hotel industry has on job growth in the state. The tour provides lawmakers an opportunity to discuss issues of job growth and career building in the hotel industry, with staff and employers alike. On the tour, Rep. TROY FLANAGAN TAPPED TO LEAD AH&LA ADVOCACY FOR STATE AND LOCAL ISSUES


Washington, D.C. (September 17, 2014) - The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) today announced the appointment of Troy Flanagan as vice president of state and local government affairs. Flanagan brings over 15 years of experience to the new role as a policy advocate who will work closely with AH&LA's state and local partners on issues critical to the hotel industry. He officially joins AH&LA on September 29.

HANDLERY FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTES $10,000 TO AH&LEF'S ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN

The Handlery Foundation contributed a leadership gift of $10,000 to the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation's (AH&LEF) 2014 Annual Giving Campaign. A longtime supporter of AH&LEF, the Handlery Foundation has supported AH&LEF through annual contributions to an endowed scholarship fund and contributions to its three previous capital giving campaigns.

HOTEL INDUSTRY APPLAUDS SENS. MCCONNELL, ALEXANDER REMARKS ON OVERREACHING NLRB

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million-employee lodging industry, today welcomed remarks made by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on the Senate floor criticizing the most recent overreach by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Senator McConnell joined SenatoIf implemented, this recommendation could remove the decision-making power from small business owners, a concern that Senator McConnell raised in a speech this morning.
